Raw materials
What our bags are made of,
and why it matters.
Every Be Eco Green bag starts as compostable granules: plant-based PLA, flexible PBAT, PHA and natural starch fillers, blended for strength and a clean ending. Here’s what each one does.
The basics
What are
biopolymers?
Biopolymers, also called bioplastics, are plastics that nature can take apart. Bacteria and fungi break them down into water, carbon dioxide and biomass.
Ordinary plastic can take hundreds of years to decompose. Biopolymers were developed to cut that waste, and many are made from renewable raw materials such as corn starch and sugarcane. A compostable bag is a careful blend of these materials, balanced for strength, stretch, cost and how quickly it breaks down.
01 · Polylactic acid
PLA,
for structure.
The plant-based backbone of the bag.
PLA is made from the sugars in corn starch and sugarcane. The sugar is fermented into lactic acid, which is then linked into long chains to form a clear, stiff bioplastic. In our bags, PLA brings structure and a smooth finish, and it takes print well.
- Comes from
- Corn starch and sugarcane
- Made by
- Fermenting plant sugar into lactic acid, then linking it into a polymer
- Gives the bag
- Stiffness, clarity and a smooth, printable surface
- Breaks down
- In industrial composting conditions
02 · Polybutylene adipate terephthalate
PBAT,
for stretch.
The stretch and toughness.
PBAT is a fully biodegradable polymer known for its flexibility and toughness. On its own, PLA would be too stiff for a carry bag. Blending in PBAT gives the bag the stretch and tear strength people expect from ordinary plastic, and it still breaks down completely in composting conditions. PBAT is widely blended with PLA and starch for carry bags, garbage bags, mulch films and packaging films.
- What it is
- A synthetic, biodegradable polymer designed to be compostable
- Gives the bag
- Stretch, softness and tear strength
- Breaks down
- Fully, in composting conditions
03 · Polyhydroxyalkanoates
PHA,
made by microbes.
Made by microbes, broken down by microbes.
PHA is produced by microorganisms. Bacteria fed on plant sugars and oils store PHA inside their cells as an energy reserve, and it is then extracted and purified. Because it is made by nature, it is among the easiest bioplastics for nature to break down.
- Comes from
- Microbial fermentation of plant sugars and oils
- Gives the bag
- Faster, more natural breakdown, and moisture resistance
- Breaks down
- In compost, and in soil

04 · Natural fillers
Starch and fillers,
for balance.
Where strength, price and breakdown are balanced.
Fillers are natural additives such as corn starch, calcium carbonate and plant fibres, mixed into the polymers. Getting the filler ratio right is how we balance strength, price and compostability for each bag.
- What they are
- Corn starch, calcium carbonate and plant fibres
- Give the bag
- Added stiffness at a lower cost
- Help it
- Break down faster in composting conditions

No single material does it all. Each bag gets its own mix, tuned for what it has to carry.
Custom Carry Bags
Main materials
Why this blend
Strong handles, takes print well, made for an everyday load.
Eco Grocery Bags
Main materials
Why this blend
Extra stretch for heavy, sharp-edged groceries.
Courier & Mailer Bags
Why this blend
Tough, tear-resistant and water-resistant for the journey.
Garbage Bags
Main materials
Why this blend
Flexible and leak-resistant for wet waste.
Stretch Film
Why this blend
Stretches up to 2.5× with good cling, and is food-safe.
Side by side
Three materials,
and ordinary plastic.
Each material earns its place in the blend. Ordinary polyethylene does the same carrying job, but it doesn’t go away.

Standards
The standards,
in plain words.
“Compostable” should mean something you can check. These are the rules our materials are measured against.
-
CPCB
India’s Central Pollution Control Board certifies compostable plastic manufacturers under the Plastic Waste Management Rules.
Our bags are certified by CPCB.
-
ISO 9001 & ISO 14001
International standards for quality management (9001) and environmental management (14001): how a factory controls quality and its impact on the environment.
Our unit is ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001 certified.
-
ISO 17088 & EN 13432
The international and European specifications for compostable plastics and packaging: how fast and how completely a material should break down in composting.

FAQ
Material questions,
answered plainly.
What the bags are, how the blend works, and how long they take to break down.
Have a question about materials? Ask us directly. We reply Mon–Sat, 9am–6pm.
01 Are compostable bags plastic?
They’re bioplastics: polymers designed to break down in composting conditions, unlike conventional plastic, which lasts for centuries.
02 What is the difference between PLA, PBAT and PHA?
PLA gives structure, PBAT gives stretch and strength, and PHA speeds up natural breakdown. Most bags use a blend.
03 Why blend them?
No single material does it all. Blending gives a bag that’s strong, flexible, printable and compostable.
04 How long do they take to break down?
About 180 days in composting conditions.
05 Are they safe for food?
Yes. Our materials are BPA-free and non-toxic.
06 Do you sell granules?
Yes. Message us on WhatsApp with what you’re making, and we’ll suggest a grade.
